The beauty of a journey

Professionally
I always love the musical experiences that unite everyone present at once for a common journey; this can happen on both sides of the fence, as a performer or as a listener. I can recall one experience in Sweden where in a small chamber orchestra we worked with the late Bud Beyer, an American pantomimer who spent many years guiding musicians – we prepared the Metamorphosen by Strauss by heart and worked together with Bud on how to use our bodies and instruments together to create the different expressions the music asks for. The experience for the group was strong and touching, and as a result, for the audience as well.

Privately
I think that seeing any journey development is a beautiful thing. If I think back to the first time I was leading a chamber orchestra to how I am now, no doubt it was a journey for me , and there is always more to learn/travel…how always to bring the best in people around me.
I’m also becoming an amateur runner in the last 3 years and to see this journey and how it has developed is a rewarding experience.
Having just seen my daughter graduate from high school was also giving much joy to my soul.

Biografie

Two time Chalmers-award winner Daniel Bard was born in Haifa, Israel, where he began his violin studies. From early on in his professional life, Daniel has been deeply passionate about the chamber orchestra setting. Invited by Tabea Zimmermann to guest lead Camerata Bern, he has since directed numerous projects with various groups such as Camerata Salzburg and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. He regularly leads the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, where he was a member from 2009–2016. From 2017-2026, he was concertmaster of the Basel Chamber Orchestra, and in 2021, upon an invitation from Iván Fischer, Daniel joined the Budapest Festival Orchestra as concertmaster. Daniel co-founded Piano Trio Mondrian, which performed from 2007 to 2019. The trio won first prize at the 2007 International Chamber Music Competition in Trieste and performed at renowned venues such as Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw, and La Fenice. In 2009, they were awarded the BBT fellowship. Daniel is a founding member of the Israeli Chamber Project, established in 2007, a chamber group active in Israel and performing at major venues across the USA. Daniel loves to play viola and often takes this role in chamber music concerts. He has also performed as soloist on viola with the Amsterdam sinfonietta. Daniel is passionate about mentoring the next generation of musicians, having led instrumental and chamber music classes at the Amsterdam Conservatory, Jerusalem Music Centre, and at the University of Toronto. He plays a 2020 violin by Paul Belin and a James Tubbs bow, generously gifted by the late Bud Beyer, his inspiring mentor.
